Hi,

I am just wondering if anyone has come across problem similar to this and know how to fix it.

When i boot up my system, it says

Uncompressing linux ...... ok, booting the kernel
audit (1104535970:0): initialized
Red Hat Nash version 4.1.18 starting
insmod: error inserting '/lib/BusLogic.ko': -1 No
ERROR: /lib/insmod exited abnormally!
INIT: version 2.85 booting
.
.
.
.
Initializing hardware ... storage network audio done [ok]
Configuring hernel parameters

and it just stops there without doing anything.

can someone please help?

thanks

Wow, that's a new one. Is this a clean installation, or have you booted this installation before successfully? Have you changed anything since installing from the CD?

insmod: error inserting '/lib/BusLogic.ko': -1 No
ERROR: /lib/insmod exited abnormally!

Hmm, might be a red herring.

I suspect that the X server didn't get configured quite right. Here's a link to someone with a similar problem:

http://www.webservertalk.com/message553813.html

And the procedure to check it:

You can try this:
When booting at grub, go to the menu, and hit 'E' to edit. Go to the
line with 'kernel', hit 'E' and delete the word 'rhgb', hit enter and
then 'B' to boot.

If deleting rhgb (redhat graphical boot) solves the problem, you just have to get your X server set up correctly. Log into the text console and run this:

# redhat-config-xfree

And see if there is something misconfigured.

hi,

thanks for the reply. I will give it a try and hope that it can solve my problem

by the way the system has changed since i last successfully booted it due to system upgrade. But i have tried the same thing with redhat 9, initially run well on old system then after upgrade, it works fine too except it complains (only the first time) that some hardware are nto found and it requested for me to remove it (a popup window for every hardware) and after that if i removed it, it works perfectly without any problem.

also, adding to the error message i've initially posted, if i press CTRL+C then it will continue to boot, but stop after it says bringup network interface [ok] and the next line is starting up syslog or something like that with a "log" in teh name and it just hang. only way to get out of that is to reboot.

thanks

Kelvin

hi Kevin, thanks for the suggestion, I have got it working now. I've removed the rhgb thing from the parameter, then it works. I didn't have to do much except to configure the monitor (i use lcd) and then it works perfectly.

thanks again.

Great! It was probably the system upgrade that stomped your old XF86Config file. Copy it off as a backup; that should help if it happens again (though they really ought to leave that file alone with system updates).
