Oct. 04, 2004
Connect Computing announced that it has published the first in a series of CDs and software guides that are intended to help users move to open source and free software products. The company's first title, Trying Linux with Knoppix 3.6, is now available.
The New Jersey-based company acknowledges that although all of the software it is offering is freely available from various online sources, it is addressing customers who have bandwidth limitations or do not have the appropriate software to create their own media.
Next up for the company is Trying Open Office, with a CD and user's manual that will highlight advanced features of the freely available office suite. The package is expected to be available in two weeks for purchase.
Connect Computing positions itself as an IT consulting company for businesses, and resells Mandrake products with support in addition to its own titles that help users move to Linux. The company also offers XRMS CRM system with support. XRMS is a free web-based program that requires no end user licenses and manages contact information. For US $499, the company provides training and complete setup of the system.
The first title in Connect Computing's just-announced CD series is available direct from the company for US $11.
