Zenwalk Linux 3.0 ships |
Sep. 11, 2006
The France-based Zenwalk GNU/Linux development team introduced v3.0, its latest stable major release, on Sept. 8. Zenwalk 3.0, which features a 2.6.17 Linux kernel and the Xfce desktop, is now available for download, as is ZenLive-2.8.1, a bug-fix update to Zenwalk's live CD edition.
The Zenwalk 3.0 release includes numerous software and visual advancements, the team noted. Key software improvements, according to the development team, include: - XFce 4.3.99.1
- 2.6.17.11 kernel
- GNOME Office
- Firefox 1.5.0.6
- Thunderbird 1.5.0.5
- Xarchiver 0.4
In all, "around 200 (application) packages were updated or added," the team wrote in the release announcement. "Visual aspects of the desktop have been improved by using a complete Tango icon set."
Zenwalk Linux (formerly Minislack) is a Slackware-based Linux operating system which makes it a point to use only one application per task, in order to conserve footprint. Despite its footprint conservation, however, Zenwalk features a complete programming environment and libraries for application programmers, according to the project.
