Freeware version of Windows-to-Linux desktop migration tool now available
Mar. 10, 2005

Resolvo Systems release a Freeware version of MoveOver, a desktop migration tool meant to help Windows users painlessly migrate to a Linux desktop within a few mouse clicks. The freeware version allows users to migrate their files, wallpaper, cookies, and Internet favorites.

MoveOver is said to include a user-friendly, wizard-driven interface that assists with migrating various Windows environments -- including documents, email messages and settings from Outlook or Outlook Express, wallpaper, cookies, Internet bookmarks, and other user-specific preferences -- to popular Linux desktop distributions. Installation is quick and fuss-free, and does not require any Linux know-how, the company says.

MoveOver Standard Edition is priced at $20 for home users and small offices, and is available from MoveOver's website. MoveOver Enterprise is aimed at facilities of 20-100,000 computers.

The freeware version of MoveOver can be downloaded here. The freeware version is a trial version of the Standard Edition, and does not include the feature of migrating emails and email configurations, according to Resolvo.
