Mandriva Linux 2007 RC1 hits the web |

France's Mandriva Linux project issued the first release candidate of Mandriva Linux 2007 on Sept. 8. The release comes just eight days after the third and final beta version of the distro was made available by the project team.
Mandriva 2007 RC1 is based on a 2.6.17 Linux kernel, and comes with a choice of the Xfce 4.3.90.2, KDE 3.5.4, or GNOME 2.16 RC1 desktops.
The project team reminds users that this is a development release, and is not meant to replace a stable operating system.
Some key changes in the latest release, as listed by the team, include: - new La Ora Theme available under KDE
- new backgrounds integrated
- network module b44 should be fixed
- default web page for the web browser should display correctly
- proprietary drivers (especially nvidia) installed and activated correctly
Standard features of Mandriva 2007 RC1 include:- choice of OpenOffice.org 2.03, KOffice 1.5.90,or GNOME Office
- Evolution 2.8, SendMail 8.13.8, or Thunderbird 1.5.0.5 email clients
- GIMP 2.3.10 graphics editor
- MySQL 5.0.24a database
